Pokhrel To Lead The Editorial Team

Rup Pokhrel is hired as the new volunteer Chief Editor of the Bhutan News Service (BNS). Pokhrel will assume his new role beginning on January 15, 2019. Pokhrel will lead the editorial team of BNS for managing editorial content and shoulder responsibility of honing the team expertise.

Bhutan Media Society (BMS), a US-based non-profit entity operates bhutannewsservice.org. The outgoing Chief Editor, Buddha Mani Dhakal will serve as the Project Coordinator at the BMS. Dhakal will  also oversee financial matters of BMS until a new bookkeeper is hired.

Pokhrel is associated with BNS since 2010. Initially Pokhrel began his contribution as a reporter and feature story writer. Starting 2012, he contributed as an Editor. From 2015 he served as the Managing Editor. Pokhrel has expanded the network of relationships with wide range of sources, readers, and contributing authors both within and outside the United States.

While in the refugee camp in Nepal, Pokhrel has worked in other newspapers such as  Bhutan Jagaran and Blast Times Daily both as a reporter and columnist in the early 2000s. He is a poet and story writer. Dozens of his literary works have been published in the magazines and in online portals. He has worked in the publishing of “The Silhouette of Truth” a collection of short stories by late Omnath Pokharel published posthumously. Also, he has edited a poetry book “The Pathetic Journey” by Narad Pokhrel in 2015. Currently he is working on bringing his own book “The Three Windows”.

Pokhrel is also one of the founding executive members and vice chair of the Bhutan Press Union. He is also one of the founding members of the widely browsed online literary portal, bhutaneseliterature.com.

Aside from his writing patience, Pokhrel has volunteered in several non-profit organizations in various managerial capacities. Pokhrel is the recipient of the ‘Community Health Partnership Champion- Award 2015’ from the Center for Engagement and Inclusion at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
