LCOB elected governing body:Board to complete

Literature Council of Bhutan (LCOB) transferred its interim leadership role to Shivalal Dahal after the international conference held in Cincinnati, last June. Shivalal and his team was entrusted to form an elected body of Board of Directors. The election date was agreed upon by the interim members for December 15 by an online conference held in November first week.

Ganga Lamitarey, a leading luminary in the field of language and literature among the Bhutanese refugee population is elected the Board Chair securing 90 percent of the votes casted online.

Other Board of directors elected are Laxman Bhandari as treasurer, Durga Rimal, director for Australia, Khagendra Gautam, director for Canada and Khim Khatiwoda for director for curriculum development.

The result was declared by an independent election commission comprised of Narayan Phuyal Sharma, Bishwa Nath Chhetri, Abhi Narayan Neopane, Bhagirath Khatiwoda and Prem Khar Khanal.

According to result sent to BNS by the election commission, twenty-three eligible voters actually registered to vote for BoD.

All the positions except for the chairman remain uncontested. Gangaram Lamitarey and Bhola Dhungana contested for the position of Chairman.

The online polling tool opened 5:30am to 3pm.

LCOB was founded in refugee camp in 1993 with a goal to promote Nepali language among the freshly arrived refugees who had very little understanding of Nepali language, grammar and context wise.

LCOB led the informal Nepali language education for all adults generating language teachers for camp schools.
