The survivor of firing in Baltimore, Maryland, who is undergoing treatment under critical condition, is identified as Bikash Gurung age, 17.
According to an eyewitness, Bikash ran into his apartment and fell down in sitting room screaming for help. “I am shot and my uncle is outside, please call the police,” Bikash is quoted as saying, before this eyewitness called the 911 and rushed him to hospital.
Meanwhile, the deceased late Big Bahadur Gurung, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital, is reported to have sustained bullets in his chest. Police had found him at the side of the apartment.
The shoot-out victims—Big Bahadur (deceased) and Bikash (survivor) are close relatives, originally hailed from Dagana district in Bhutan.
Police authority in the area, during a brief meeting with the victims’ relatives and community leaders on Wednesday, said that the investigation is underway. No one has been arrested in connection to the incident until the filing of this report.
A latest report obtained from the hospital says that Gurung’s condition is improving. Gurung could say nothing about the cause of the shooting, but he said to his sister, Buddhi Gurung, that two black men approached him with a gun demanding for money. “As I was opening my wallet, they shot my uncle. After that they shot me on my stomach”, Buddhi Gurung quotes Bikash Gurung as saying.

This is a sad news in our Bhutanese community. It was happening in some state like Baltimore maryland,Florida and California.Now this a time to think why Bhutanese are targated by black people?Three days back two young boys was severly hurt by black people here in Phoenix and one was hospitalised and he had his operation.Anyway, this is a lesson to pick by all our resettled Bhutanese refugee and it’s time to be carful while moving around.Time and tides wait for none,today one of our late bir bdr gurung is no more and one is in critical condition..,.,.,.,.very sad news,.,..Lastly,i extend my heartfelt condolence to the bereaved Gurung family and may the departed soul rest with peace in Heaven.

I extend my heartfelt CONDOLENCE to the bereaved famil(y/ies). “Let us keep ourselves safe!” Bhutanese might have been targeted because we are ready to work and earn our livelihood ourselves; all the people are not as hard working as we are. We are aware that there are many, we see on the streets and in our neighborhoods, that they live as well as or better than we do in-spite of having no any job! How this could be possible? Might be that they have seen their easy prey in plenty!! “Prevention is always better than cure.” Lets be more and more cautious that we might not be harmed. We can reduce such happenings if we become little more careful.

Let us moarn on the untimely death of big Bahadur Gurung. Why such incident are occuring repeatately in different part of US. Security should be provided in the area where mostly resettled Bhutanese are living. People should have feeling of safety in the surrounding where they live. We have deep concern about the security in the area where people lived.
I grieve with the families. It is sad that crime is a part of urban life,however I truly believe that it is wrong to blame blacks. Yes much crime is committed by young black men mostly in their own community, but there is another black middle class in many cities with strong values. To hate blacks is no different than the Bhutan government classifying all Nepalese as bad. As difficult as it is, we cannot stereotype by color. I blame the agencies and government for a lot as there is generally not enough support too provide safe decent housing. Almost all refugees are placed in substandard housing. I have felt that we as a country should provide middle class housing and a subsidy for a year.
There are many blacks who help refugees. I know of some here in Atlanta.
Without cars and being on foot and in poor areas put all in danger. Even traveling in groups may not help. In some areas crime is committed by whites and Spanish (Texas).
So much of what happen is being in the wrong place at the wrong time.Hopefully the culprits will be caught. Lets be tolerant and cautious and realistic. No one ever said America was paradise-there is no perfect place. It is all relative and one needs to weigh pros and cons.
May the families fins some solace in the memories of the young man.
The most important thing is that we have to be very careful with those people.Why the same scene is repeating time and again to Bhutanese peoples? What those people expect from Bhutanese people, couple of month ago Atlanta Georgia has same problem asking money by showing guns and other stuff, 2 years ago 1 Bhutanese was shot and killed in Florida all those are sad thing to our community.Let his departed soul rested in peace in heaven.

Sad news! many bhutanese died because of insecurity in America. It couldn’t have happened in Nepal. In terms of security it is same like Nepal, not better.

This is a sad news to be heard.The Bhutanese people are shot demanding money in a chronological order.As i myself was shot in Denver when i was back home from the job demanding money.A guy was also shot in Kentucky for no reason.Again in Baltimore.So may be this is the time to pressurize the US Government for our security.Wherever the event took place there is an involvement of Afro-American(Black) are found to be involved.

Very sad incident. Peace be to the family and relatives, and the whole bhutanese refugee community abroad. We are placed in substandard places (generally the ghettos), we should strive to move to safer neighborhoods in the cities we are placed as we find employment and have some income; without worrying about having to pay a few hundred dollars more than those bad neighborhoods we are placed into. So sad that this young man could not live his dreams !!
