One killed, two hurt in Manas attack

An unidentified gang has killed a soldier of the Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) leaving two others critically injured on the evening of September 11.

According to our correspondent in Indo-Bhutan border, the unknown gang had fired at a regular RBA patrol team in the royal Manas national park.

The state-owned Kuensel mentioned that the incident occurred at around 6:30 to 7 pm in Gobarkunda, when the patrolling team from wing 9 in Gelephu was preparing dinner. Gobarkunda is a two-day walk from Gelephu towards Panbang.

The deceased soldier is identified as Peljab, 44, who died on the spot. Those critically injured have been hurt in the arm and legs.

It is reportedly learnt that at least 35 soldiers and two officers were camped near the Gobarkunda River that evening.

Kuensel further said that the body of the Peljab and the two injured soldiers were brought to Gelephu last night. The deceased is survived by his wife and three children.

Until the filing of this news, no individual or group have owned up responsibility to the incident.
