Bhutanese women resettled in Norway celebrated first community Teej amidst a special program Friday evening.
Around 50 people gathered to mark Teej program organized in Ølen Sentrum in Rogaland, Western Norway. “I find very little difference between Bhutanese and Norwegian now. The only thing is that they are Bhutanese,” said Grete, Refugee Coordinator of Vindafjord Kommune where the program was organized.
At least 82 Bhutanese individuals have made Rogaland County Municipality as their new home since the first family got resettled here in January 2009.
Late report obtained from Alta, Northern Norway says that a similar programme, first of its type, was organized in SISA Cultural Centre on Saturday evening to observe Teej. Alta was the first destination for Bhutanese resettled in Norway, the first family being resettled in January 2008.
Teej – ‘the festival of swings’ is celebrated with gusto and fervor in by Hindu people. The festival of Teej commemorates the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Married women and young girls celebrate the festival with earnest devotion. Teej brings great relax from the scorching summers. Many religious activities takes place at the time of Teej. Such rituals and customs of Teej forces people to become part of grand Teej celebrations.
