The government on Tuesday decided to give 20 percent lift to civil servant’s pay scale. This will benefit around 20,000 civil servants, Finance Minister Wangdi Norbu announced.

As per the decision of salary revision, lawmakers top the highest beneficiaries list as they will pocket in 35 percent increment from Nu 36,000 to Nu 55,490. However, the cabinet ministers who are drawing Nu 78,000 per month decided to forgo their hikes.
The Kuensel quoted Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley as saying, “While the cabinet decided unanimously to not benefit from the hike, the Supreme Court chief justice would also resonate their decisions.”
The proposed salary hike will come into effect from January 1 next year.
