YOB, TWMN condemn murder

Sept 10: Bhutan People’s Party-affiliated Youth Organisation of Bhutan (YOB) has strongly condemned the murder of social activist and former camp secretary of Beldangi-II extension KB Khadka.

“Khadka was very helpful, man of courage, veteran refugee leader and a great social and human rights activist. He had been a strong voice for voiceless for the Bhutanese refugee community ever since the establishment of camps. He helped the people from all walks of life in the camps through his selfless and tireless service which indeed is imprinted in the heart of all Bhutanese refugees in Nepal and around the world”, reads the statement issued by its president Rajen Giri from USA.

Calling the incident as heinous, barbaric, and cowardly act of criminals, the organisation has further urged all the concerned authorities to take urgent and necessary measures to apprehend and punish those responsible for the incident.

YOB has further said that the murder of Khadka was a great loss to the entire Bhutanese community.

Meanwhile, the Bhutan Chapter of Third World Media Network (TWMN) has shown deep concern towards the fragile security system prevailing inside refugee camps.

In a statement issued today, the TWMN- Bhutan Chapter said the organisation is deeply socked by the murder of Khakda.

“Not only was a social activist, Khadka a good well-wisher of Bhutanese media operation in exile had long backed our fight for the establishment of media freedom in Bhutan”, reads the statement, adding that an urgent measure to bring the culprit to police net was necessary.

TWMN- Bhutan Chapter has further said that the exiled Bhutanese media sector has lost one of their well-wishers.

Two unidentified youths stabbed Khadka to spot-death on September 8 near Beldangi refugee camp while he was on his way to home on a motor bike.
