A 204 meter long bridge under construction on Wangchhu river has collapsed in Haa-Damchhu segment of the road.
It collapsed yesterday at 4:30 pm local time when Dantak, the Indian road construction company, was testing the load capacity of the bridge.
According to BBS, of nine people missing due to collapse, three bodies have been recovered so far. All missing are Indian workers.
According to expert sources in Thimphu, it was basically a poor design and corruption in construction business that led to the mishap.
The Damchu-Haa link road was expected to cut travel time from Haa to Phuentsholing by two hours. The construction of bridge began in 2016.
Volunteers, Bhutan Army and Bhutan Police personnel are helping Dantak to search the missing individuals.
Dantak is the biggest and all-time government agency of India government that helps road and bridge construction in Bhutan.
