Local reports from Lethbridge in Canada have confirmed that one resettled youth from Beldangi-II refugee camp was shot dead when police opened fire at him in response to a disturbance call.

The Calgary Herald quoted Hem Lal Timsina, Chairman of the Canadian Bhutanese Society, as naming the ill-fated Bhutanese as 26-year-old Raj Puri.

The initial findings have revealed that two policemen, who reached Puri’s apartment, fired their service weapons and killed him following reports of a disturbance involving a weapon at a home on Columbia Bay W.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is reportedly investigating into the fatal shooting, added the report. Meanwhile, police have recovered a knife from the spot.

Late Puri was resettled a year ago from Beldangi-II Sector F.

  1. I am shocked, how such cruel action can take place in the country like Canada, a refugee is killed without final reason?
It must be investigated and justified.
I hope to hear proper action from the government.

  2. I think neither Canada nor United States law enforcement would care about the convicted person and his family as long as he is possessing any kind of weapons that would threaten the life of other people and does not want to surrender. We need to realize the power of law enforcement and how far could they go when you are not ready to give up.

  3. @Mohan Bhandari, “knowhow about the man and his family”,….what the hell u talking abt man, law is law, it doesnt need to kno the individual’s history as long as the persons involved in the scene are at threat due to the man holding knife and not putting it down as the police commanded, it doesnt matter whether one is refugee or king, comes from Nepal/Bhutan or Africa or China, law is law and according to the law in tensed situation to controll the situation they not gonna ask where have the family come from, whether they are refugee or not, ok. It doesnt matter, police have a certain evidence based procedure to follow and reach a decission whether to go any closer to the armed or to shot, But the only point here is they sud shoot him on his legs first and if required on hands and arrest him and take to jail & court but sudnt be shot to dead.
