Police authorities in Raleigh, North Carolina finally released the report of the accident that says the pedestrian who was struck and killed Wednesday morning in North Raleigh was attempting to cross the road even though the crossing light read “Do Not Walk.”
According to the police accident report, a senior Bhutanese, Nanda Lal Poudyel, 68, of Suburban Drive stepped into the northbound lanes of Falls of Neuse Road in front of a passenger car driven by Aida Isabel Medelmoss of Raleigh.
The report released by the police on Friday further stated that southbound traffic had stopped for a red light, but the northbound lanes still had a green light until just before Poudyel stepped off the curb. According to this report, late Poudyel entered the northbound lanes while the lights were yellow.
The accident took place on Tuesday at Falls of Neuse and Sandy Forks roads. Poudyel, who was taken by emergency workers to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, was pronounced dead shortly after admitting in the hospital.
Will not there be any legal consequences for the driver? So it means the total fault is of the deceased one.
This is a very bad news for everyone who new late poudel or didnot.It has become very important for educated family members or community leaders of this new community, which hails from very remote place regarding motor vehicle mobility, to educate them on pedestrain education atleast to minimize such accidents in future.
Needs to educate our people.
This is really a bad news again for all bhutanese living abroad. My condolence. But the fact we should consider is, this is not the first time it is happening. Most of the victims of these kind of accidents are the old generation people. This group of People keep going to ESL classes, yet they even haven’t learned how to read simple road sing..Here arises a question in our mind..
* What are those ESL instructors teaching them? Isn’t it important to teach them what we call life skills rather than A for apple and B for ball.
* Are these group of people just attending ESL classes for some government aid like bus passes and DSHS support? Isn’t it important to at least learn something that can be really useful for their future here in USA.
Atleast education regarding some rules of traffic and rights of the vehicle and pedistrians must be given to our community people to stop further accidents. Not in one state, all the people who are uneducated need this who have deep concept that the driver will stop any way.
This is an unexpected misshapen! We got to admit that many beloved ones have lost their lives being ignorant and this is the easy way to have a lame excuse and on top of it, we people have sufficient ornamental pity words to express the condolences. These people ,smart at expressing or who want them to be called elite are negligent. So, how long are you going to refer your dictionary or Google for the best appropriate word for condolences and wait for the next misshapenwith a bunch of words.Don’t we have other options, like organizing classes related to traffic crossing or safety concerns for our seniors or illiterate ones ?probably your action would be more powerful than your sympathetic words.
