Preparations are underway in India to dipole additional 8,000 troops along its borders with Bhutan and Nepal by July to ensure effective patrolling at these frontiers.
The state owned news agency on Thursday quoted Director General of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) Pranay Sahay as saying, “We would be deploying about eight fresh battalions between both the borders that we guard. The deployment will largely be achieved by July. The rest will be put in place over few months from then.”
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) guards the 1,751-km Indo-Nepal and 699-km Indo-Bhutan borders, reported Press Trust of India (PTI).
The SSB chief said the border guarding force has also begun creating new Border Out Posts (BOPs) at these frontiers and these freshly trained troops will be stationed to man these units and patrol the ‘open’ frontier.
The report further said, the DG has been travelling to these border areas to oversee the new work since he took over charge of the about 40,000 personnel strong force in October 2011.
At present, India has 450 BoPs along the Indo-Nepal border and the distance between two BoPs is 4.5 km.
Sahay said similar measures are also being undertaken along the Indo-Bhutan border with the creation of 50 new BoPs. The force guards the 669-km frontier with Bhutan, added the report.
I don’t understand why India is crazy about the boarder petrol in Nepal and Bhutan’s boarder. It looks like to contain the trouble, if created by the humble Bhutanese refugees from the camps.
But I see more of urgency of such forces along the sino-Bhutan and its own boarders.

If at all India feels security threat then it is from within its own communities and organizations that are active inside. India should be happy with its neighboring countries Bhutan and Nepal as these two are like spare parts to India. Or is India afraid of Bhutanese refugees?

Why do you worry on displaying troops in borders by the Govt of India? I think Indians can do what they like in order to keep their country safe. India is not only bordered with BHutan and Nepal, so we don’t need to be so skeptical on others doings. More over i think Bhutan is not your country. Some of you are in Nepal and others are in the resettled countries. Also, there is no Yesterday and there is no Tomorrow, so my question is : WHY do you worry? Also, how do you say that Nepal and Bhutan are like spare parts of India?
Look like one of the NB Giri’s screw is loose. Ask your fellow people who are resettled in the State of Texus, New Mexico, Arizona and other southern states that borders with Mexico why US border patrolling is so important to the USA.
I would have written my reply if I knew I am talking to someone real. But, anyway do not teach me about defence matters ok.
