The Goldhap camp has turned into ash one more time as a huge fire that broke-out from one of the huts gutted over 500 huts while another 150 have been dismantled to prevent further damage. The camp has 739 huts in total.

Goldhap correspondent Tilak Niraula says the displaced fire victims have been talking shelter in the camp school.

“The scene was so horrible that the whole camp turned into ash in less than two hours,” Niraula said, “Mine hut was one of the first shelters to catch the fire.”

The Camp Secretary Chiranjibi Rai said, the local authority has confirmed that the fire was first seen from a hut owned by Rabilal Timsina of Sector B-2 at 7:45 am “He has told us that there was puja in his hut before the fire leaked into his roof.”

According to Rai, six fire extinguishers took hours to bring the fire under complete control.

Representatives of the various donor agencies including the UN Refugee Agency and their associates visited the camp today.

Meanwhile, a ration store of the World Food Program also got fire while the school building has remained intact.

Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Shahi Shekar Shrestha, who reached the spot at around 9:30 am assured government support for all the refugees.

“We are preparing to deliver cash support to each burnt house,” Shrestha told Bhutan News Service, “We’ll make the supports available as soon as possible.”

The Association of Medical Doctors of Asia (AMDA) Nepal, Caritas and Youth Friendly Center, among others are in the field from the very start of the fire.

Around three dozen of refugees have been wounded and are being treated by the AMDA Nepal.

  1. It is great impairment to our people in Goldhap and Sanischare camp. It has further made the life more nastiest then before. Let us join our hand to subsidize our people in the camp. It is an abysmal time for the victims of the fire.
Let us appeal to all the resettled Bhutanese all over the world to contribute somehow to our people in the camp to relief the victims in need. Come on! Let us collaborate and generate some emergency funds to comfort the survivals of the heartbreaking consecutive incidence in these two camps of the day.

  2. Reason is very simple, fire leaked from puja negligence. But see the consequences, the whole camp burnt down to ashes and the loss is yet to be recorded.
There is no need to make a bonfire in the puja, at the same time, the occasion is observed at least by pujahari and the devotee. They need to be watchful and these two persons should be dealt for their negligence at first hand. This is the issue of public concern.
This is a very dry season with the periodic cyclones. The camp lies on very prone area. The materials of construction are very fragile for fire and the spacing in the linear mode with minimum gapping promotes the fire funneling and spreading wildly. Guru, the fortune caster should take minimum precautionary steps and should understand the minimum natural phenomena. Let’s be little serious.
I feel sorry for the incident. But I cannot express the wrath of the carelessness by these responsible persons. Anyway thanks God for saving the human lives.
Let’s find out how we can help during this uninvited disaster.

  3. It is very sad to learn the demise of Goldhap Bhutanese Refugee Camp again and the fire atrocities in Sanischare Bhutanese Refugee Camp last night. The majority of the demography in the camp now is down the line of general Education and literacy enlightenment, and awareness campaign becomes very complicated and absurd to such mass of human individuals. It is worth dismantling the camps as soon as possible, and the ultimate efficiency to do this is to open the Door to go back home-Bhutan. Otherwise we will be hearing this sort of horrible news time and again. Following the wars in Oil rich countries, the international market is destined to go up ruthlessly. If it goes up, refugees in the camps and Bhutanese in the abroad land will be victims in multiple ways. Hundreds of GOPAL KHADKA will be environmentalized in the Refugees camps by the locals. Now is the time to idealize our mind with prevention is better than cure !!

Dear political leaders aren’t your heart burnt in Goldhap Camp? Didn’t you get chopped off in Sanischare Camp last night? Why aren’t you still in the camps being blazed by the fire when helping hands are there with empathies and supports? The generation has been deceived let us now work to safeguard the history.

We have seen massive political turmoil in Egypt and Libya recently and we have seen many allusions of political successes in building the democratic citizenry certainties in and around the place we have been damping our potentialities for decades now. Looking all these movements in political dimensions, we can certainly infer that Bhutanese Movement has become the victims of the Bad Politicians and so called leaders rather than hypocrite Jigmeism.

People now should start to ask our leaders, what are they waiting to resume the revolution they have led in 1990s ? What capacities they have built in three decades to democratize Bhutan? A couple of days ago, one of the Bhutanese Intellectual Youths, Dhurba Mishra from Virginia USA wrote that international communities haven’t heard about the royal brutalities in Bhutan. What are you leaders doing for the future of Bhutan ?

Dear leaders now is the time to either get burnt ourselves in Goldhap and Sanischare, or to get revitalized on the road to establish meaning in our leadership. If I were a Bhutanese leader, I would compare who I could be compared in the world for Bhutanese Citizens such as : am I Gandi for Bhutanese ? Am I BP for Nepalese ? Am I Obama for Bhutanese ? Who am I for Bhutanese ?? Why am I called a Bhutanese Leader ??

The world of our perception has changed !! our understanding as a Bhutanese Citizen has changed now and leaders have very limited scope to occupy the sacred page of Bhutanese History unless they are leaders of the ages elapsed with our heads being bowed down with salute and pride together, so it is the right time to act bold and cite bravery in ourselves and we can build the our theoretical road to praiseworthy rebuilding of our nation in practice. Please don’t bloom your heart with the transitory happiness that the resettled folks propagated coz now is the time to burn ourselves in the fires blazing our future securities and certainties in the refugee camps.
Now is the time to request the helping agencies to enable us how we can fill our sacks ourselves rather than having a blur hope for life every fifteen days in the ration counter in the Refugee Camp.

Dear Editor, can you conform the full form of AMDA? I think it is Association of Medical Doctors of Asia instead of the one that is uploaded in this news. I may be wrong and it would be great if you can conform this, please.

Let us churn our minds and constructive comments will be solicited!!

  4. Mr Puranaghare,
That’s a nice analysis about the Bhutanese Politics, but I think your views diverted as I keep reading, instead of focussing and point at a problem you kept opening causes of wars and incidents. Let’s do what we can to help the victims then to blame and curse politicians and other leaders. It’s a time to unite and support rather than to spread waves of rage. Needless to talk about Libya, and Egypt at this particular time and event.
I have been reading your post and your literary works and you are one of the respected literary figure of Bhutanese society, I don’t want to hurt your feelings and attack your social image but I just want to let you know that please do not post comments that could emotionally activate people and that might eventually lead into choas with we do not anticipate at this time.
    Thank you
    Ram

  5. Dear Puranaghare,
I had gone twice through your comment but I didn’t find any special reason to pounce our rotten politician with the blazing news of camp. You might be doing an endeavor to advocate yourself as patriotic but Mr Puranaghare don’t blindly drag your extreme nationalism toward the torment given by these hideous news. As well don’t tempt to link the furious world history of conflict with this fearsome news henceforth. Rather heed victims pathos and work together to minimize their agony. So pls post only the relevant comment and circumspect before it’s delivery. Be cautious about your abracadabra comment before posting, it might profit you, otherwise your out-dated tedious legend proved to be disgraceful to yourself. Let you quench your yearning elsewhere in related subject, not in this sensitive news. Anyway Mr Puranaghare don’t overdue to mend your neurotic comments.
    Thank you
    Kiran

  6. I totally agree with you Kiran, with regards to Puranaghare’s irrelevent and unhealty comments at inappropirate box at a wrong time. He probably should open his own personal blog and vomit his profound patriotic feelings and write whatever he likes. Again thumbs-up for your comments

    Thanks
    Ram

  7. @puranagare

At this time of need for your people from the the Goldhap and Sanishare camps it is wise to stand your ground as proud, caring and compassionate people. Dragging in politics, though understandible, is at this moment very badly timed. Better use energy and passion to organize aid for the victims, either financially or practical. Politics, no matter how justified, is for later after the needs of the people are taken care of. Don’t point fingers to ‘leader’ as on a hand with a pointing finger to another person at least three fingers are pointing to yourself!

This is the time to stand together, raise money and awareness. Take care of the victims and let the world know what’s been happening. Let’s unite in international action and support BNS’s initiative to fund aid at the two camps that have been srruck by disaster. Use your energy to write news agencies, NGO’s, governments media to make them aware of the current situation asking them to give attention, money and support.

    Regards,
    Alice
