Following a tip-off, Nepalese police arrested two persons in Jhapa on the charge of selling fake Bhutanese citizenship to non-Bhutanese.
The Area Police Office, Kakadbhitta arrested ‘U’ Wangchuck and ‘K’ Dorjee three days ago with 30 fake copies of Bhutanese citizenship, reports the Kathmandu Post, Tuesday. The Bhutan News Service has withheld initials of their names on security grounds.
Police believe that there is a large network of people running the fake citizenship racket, particularly active in Sikkim, Darjeeling, Manipur and Shillong, in India.
The racket has reportedly taken off with the third country resettlement scheme for Bhutanese refugees living in Nepal.
A confidential source informed BNS that some of the district officials at the Refugee Coordination Unit have also been involved in the racket. However, the claim couldn’t be verified independently.
Police also claimed that such activities have increased as initial registration process of remaining asylum seekers from Bhutan has been underway in Jhapa since a month.
This is the real colour of so called Bhutanese refugees leaders, who are using poor people as human shield to cover up there criminal activities. Thats why we are divided and nothing could be achieved against the Bhutan government during the past 20 years.
Sonam Lama you did not read the news properly. Please do so kindly. If you are looking at this news from the ethnic perspective and not the criminal law perspective—– then hey the perpetrators were Wangchuk and Dorjee.
Even a Bhote can be a criminal. Start with the 4th King who committed inhumane crimes of torture, rape and arson by ordering these activities. Look up resources and read better next time.
All Wangchuks are not criminals. Hatred is not in your blood it is in your mind. It can be cleared as it is not a disease.

I feel hilariously safe wherever I am. Although thank you for asking. Not hoping to come back to Bhutan obviously. If I ever do I would feel incredibly unsafe even though I was born there. Bhutan is safe for tourists but not for its marginalised citizens nor for its evicted population. Conflicts in other parts of the world have continued for more than a century even in modern day world. In your’s and my case only 20 years have past. There is plenty of time to build understanding and harmony. Of course that won’t happen without a fight.
Your ability to make cheap comments about Bhutanese refugee leaders and their non-existent criminal history or involvement with this scandal of forgery explains something very fundamental.
Everything about my comments are cheap whereas yours are not. How can that be?? You did not provide facts or evidence of those facts. So I can consider you a sensible person who has enlightened me. I have to consider you incapable of understanding a piece of news.
What conclusion I draw is that you inherently view Lhotsampas as lower to you- as a full citizen of Bhutan.
You have the material wealth and see the people living down in the South do not have that power and wealth to control you. And so you compare every other Lhotsampa not just in Bhutan but also in Nepal and now all over the world- as inferior. Whatever you say is holy- whatever I say is cheap?
But I must admit we both made cheap comments.
I personally did not have the intention of ridiculing Bhotes. But alas I may have. But it is clear that having not grown in Bhutan I never learnt or felt any fear to not use the word Bhote. An eye for an eye is unjustified. But I am not a person in Bhutan insecure and culturally stamped like other Lhotsampas . So I may have been liberal with my words.
But as I said earlier not all Wangchuks are criminals. So I have no intention of ridiculing the sensible classes of Bhutan.

Please remember, to divide community is a cheap politic,it will bring more trouble to the peace loving society.
So my request to you is, if you do not know the history of our struggle please do not poke your nose,it seems that you are not sure about our history of struggle.
I do not remember, our Drukpa Brother/sisters (you said bhote) did any harm to us,in fact some of them supporting our struggle.
So mind your language, if you are not sure, do your own business.
They are not bhote, bhote belongs to bot (Tibet) they are drukpas of Drukyul.
