According to Beldangi Camp Secretary, another 35 huts were destroyed while bringing the mishap under control. The fire broke out at 1:10 a.m. Friday morning.

The camp-based Armed Police Force (APF) and local residents brought the fire under control after a battle of over an hour, followed by four fire extinguishers from Damak, Itahari, Bhadrapur and Kakarvitta, Inspector Bijedra Rimal told the Bhutan News Service.

Around 250 displaced citizens have been talking sheltering in English Language School.

Representatives of various aid agencies and government authorities are reported to have reached the spot for releasing immediate relief package for the fire victims.

Unfortunately, former refugee camp Goldhap was twice turned into ashes in 2008 and 2011 in the same month of March.

  1. Sad to see this incident happen again…
Its clear how careless are the refugees from Golddhap. Now,there will be another fire in PATHRI pretty soon where a big chunks of refugees from goldhap are settled.Look at this camp secretary, he might have enjoyed the warmth of inferno as the huts gutted one after the other..poor creature!!

  2. Very unfortunate incident!!! I am deeply sad with the news. No body knows what caused the same type of incident time and again, but everyone guess. Let the power of GOD be on top of everyone affected by this inferno and extend them strength to tolerate this moment.

  3. Yet another bad news for our people. A proper report should be prepared by the concerned authorities and the Bhutanese themselves so as to identify the factors that contribute to such fire accidents. The report should also include safety measures to prevent further fire accidents. However, there should be an authentic mechanism to patrol refugee huts and intensive awareness and control measures must be in place before any such incident occurs.

  4. It is a very sad news to all the Bhutanese Refugees scattered all over the world. But what the solution is??? The huts in Beldangi 2 is so compactly arranged, that there is always danger og fire. There is almost no space between the huts and the huts in Bel-2 are attached together like train wagon making everything prone to fire. It is very hard for the individual to find the way out.
The agencies should work on rearranging the huts with more space between the huts and provide safety equipment and safety awarness among the refugees, instead of distributing relief aids to the victims every year. We are already the victim of ethnic cleansing and we don’t want to be victim anymore. Let the agencies come forward with concrete solution to avoid such disaster in near future.
REFUGEE IS NOT OUR STATUS, IT IS OUR COMPULSION.
Our prayer to all the victims.

  5. Thanks Nabinji 🙂

The other, i want to point out is the first two lines of the above news.

( The night inferno, which was reportedly started from a hut owned by former Camp Secretary of Goldhap camp Ram Chandra Bastola of Beldangi-II Sector B/4, Hut Number 25, has gutted 50 huts.)
Everyone has the privacy and transparency. Transparency does not mean the reflection but to view from one side to other. The case is under investigation, and the authorities are investigating of any criminal / political issue or any foul play or whatsoever. I think that disclosing the privacy without proving guilty seems very inappropriate here in this case.
We have to think of the sentimental effect from disclosing the privacy of the individual, how guilty he/she may be feeling. And we ‘ve to know that, no one likes to burnt down their own shed. Yes, to some extent it is our carelessness, but not 100%. As i ‘ve said on my previous comment that ”Refugee is not our desire, it is our compulsion”.
I think BNS should maintain secrecy and privacy and disclose only after proving guilty.
