A taxi driver in the capital city, who even doesn’t own a taxi, has become an example for Bhutanese around the globe as returned Nu 90.382 million untouched to its owner following a lost notice in the newspaper.
The Bhutan Broadcasting Service has reported that Tashi Dawa has set an example of sincerity by returning the money he found lying by the roadside to its owner, who is an employees at the Bank of Bhutan.
The Bank and owner have rewarded him with Nu 100,000 and 300,000 cash.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley met Dawa and thanked him for his sincerity and loyalty. He also gave Dawa a cash amount of Nu 50,000 as a token of appreciation from the government.
The PM appreciated his sincerity saying, “You are a simple man who drives somebody’s vehicle on rent to make a living. You found a bag full of money. If you had kept it for yourself, it would be enough for a lifetime. But you did not keep it because you have principles and values.”

This is very good example of loyal people. So all should learn the lesson from Dawa. And we should believe on our own earning which is the true value of your labour.

Next, if this is the private money of Banker there is no thing to argue, but if it is the money from his Bank, there definitely should be security to safeguard that amount. It could be true but I find it hard to believe not on the sincerity of the driver but on the whole issue. First of all 90.38 M is a load of money to be out on the street. Secondly where could a bank employee in Bhutanese standard get so much money to be thrown out on the street. Thirdly, why is the bank involved here as long as that money seems to be belonging to the employee?
Bhutan is notoriously famous for snorting on GNS as much as snubbing Nepal in many ways. Is not this a propaganda to improve it image in the so-called GNH hulla bulla? or to lift its image in the corruption ladder? Or is it just to build its authenticity against a Nepalese girl who falsely claimed to have found surprising almost the same amount some months ago and, who too then was called and praised by the president of Nepal? Unbelievable events!

First of all the news is distorted from the original report. Secondly, when did the refugees appreciated the work other people do? Last year I read comments about the a Jewish volunteer in Atlanta who put all his personal resources to help the refugees but at last what he received in return is an accusation. This is the mentality the so called refugees and their leaders have. Learn to appreciate someone’s good work. Don’t try to make someone a thief because you have a habit of stealing.

It is nothing more than a ‘Grand Design’. If there are any bold Bhutanese in Bhutan, he/she should approach Dawa and find out the reality. Who knows poor Dawa must have been made Thinley’s, bank’s and owner’s puppet and ‘they’ would be credited. I believe Dawa reached home empty hand.
As most of the commentators were of the opinion that the amount was more than exaggerated, I too have similar deviation with the following logic. Highest denomination of Bhutanese Ngultrum is Rs 100 value at par and with that dividend, the size or volume of that amount would be too huge to fit in a luggage bag that is being carried in a taxi. Can’t we do little calculation? How long (time) will it take for a mere driver to count that figure?
Whatever the amount, I’m sure that the taxi driver returned the haunted bag to the owner and the honest driver needs appreciation. This is what makes Bhutanese a sense of pride.

Anyways, this story by far looks a cooked up tale for some reason. The reasons being the weight of stated amount of cash would be somewhere between 50kgs (with 1000 denonination) to half a tonne (with 100 denomination). Such a weight with considerable volume is too much to be taken by Taxi or forgotten on the way to be found or returned! @#$##@@!!!&&$$!!**
