Dr DNS Dhakal explained to the Bhutan News Service (https://www.bhutannewsservice.org/bhutanese-refugees-must-not-blunder-into-non-residential-nepali-status/) (BNS) why, in his opinion: "As former Bhutanese refugees, we must advocate for Non-Resident Nepali (NRB) and not Non-Resident Bhutanese (NRN) status". Do you agree with his conclusions? why? why not?
I do agree with the idea of forming a non-resident Bhutanese(ex-Bhutanese) organization of any name as a platform for serving the short and long run interests of the Bhutanese diaspora. In fact, this is overdue.
Having said that, I am absolutely NOT in favor of making anything like a Non-Resident Nepalese(NRN) organization. That is a Nepalese organization which serves their interests.
Our political history as former citizens of Bhutan and not Nepalese citizens puts us in a different spectrum where we cannot seek NRN membership even if we want to. I am glad that the Nepalese Constitution and NRN Constitution have such provisions that limit our eligibility for seeking NRN membership.
