Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley has told mediapersons that his government was trying to garner supports from the neighboring countries for filing Bhutan’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
“Having gained so much from UN in the last 40 years, we feel it is time for us to move further. Bhutan is now the candidate for the post of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2013-2015 period,” the PM told reporters, Tuesday.
The Prime Minister expressed such an opinion while speaking to ambassadors and high commissioners, and urged them to convince their countries for supporting Bhutan’s move for the same.
“I would imagine that Bhutan as a country sitting between India and China, it must take advantage of the opportunities the rapidly prospering countries will offer,” he added, according to the online edition of Bermana.
The result of Bhutan’s candidacy in the UNSC is expected to be released later this year in October.
Bhutan has been a permanent member of the United Nations Organizations since 1971.
This Thinley guy is crazy. What Bhutan will gain by the memebership of UNSC. He should think of solving the youth unemployment, eradicating rural poverty, disease and providing safe drinking water instead of wasting time and energy for issues Bhutanese people donot want. This man should never be reelected. He is simply dancing to the tune of some foreign interest.
Prime Minister, Thinley – Bhutan, in the hope of taking the spirit of “Gross National Happiness” should seriously learn those humanitarian aspects of Malaysia rather focusing on economic progress of Malaysia.
So far as I know-
Malaysia is ‘home’ to between 90,000 and 170,000 refugees and asylum-seekers from Burma, china, North Korea, and other neighboring nations. Where as, Bhutan is only the nation having largest (1/6) percentage of its population refugee. Source: UNHCR.

Thinley is making every possible conditions tht r neccessary that the happiness and wellbeing of its citizens. True citizen can enjoy the liberty and freedom of these pursuits by the govt…………….i thnk demanding such equal freedom n liberty from the govt…by the refugees, who r largely anti-nationals would be shameful on their parts…..
Osman, bhutan also hosts refugees from other neigbouring countries like tibet, nepal n northeast india, who where displaced in times of political turmoils in their countries and Burmese r no exception. they should be granted refuge in any countries not only in Malaysia…… Osman, if ur mind is not the carbon copy of Osama Bin Laden, then you can thnk better n speak wise………… plz think twice b4 u leap…………….

Actually anti-nationals are those who conspired to throw out southern Bhutanese of Nepali ethnicity from the kingdom. Please read the hidden history how badly Tibetan refugees were treated in Bhutan. It is true King Jigme and Dago Tshering allowed terrorists from north east India not the ordinary refugees. Bhutan represents one of the most discriminatory regimes in the world where the government still follows racist policies against southern Bhutanese, eastern Bhutanese and all minority groups. Bhutan will have to tread a long long way before it becomes a truly democratic and free country, the only obstacle to freedom is the monarchy and its worshippers like Jigme Thinley and his party.
So the real Osman is the Nep refugee resettled in UK, not from Malaysia! You try to fool readers by disguising as Malaysian. You shameless. God has already cursed you once. Try to repent for the sin you committed and seek a better life ahead.
