Representatives from various organisations and local authority failed to bring the ongoing fast-unto-death to an end Sunday as agitating women remained firm in their demands.
Following mounting pressures from various sectors, Acting Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Yogendra Dulal, visited Beldangi. However, he failed to convince the hunger strikers.
CDO Dulal requested Durga Devi Bista, who has been leading the 12-member women team in the protest, to end the strike, which she refused flatly.
Dulal tried convincing Bista that the government was not in a position to meet their demands immediately.
In reponse, Bista told him that her team was ready to sacrifice their lives if the government doesn’t agree to commit in written.
Rights defenders associated with the Human Rights Organization of Nepal communicated the development of the last meet held by their President Sudip Pathak with Nepalese Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchadhar.
According to their claim, Minister Gachchadhar has committed to address the issue in the next 10 days.
Meanwhile, two women, whose blood-sugar level has dropped down critically, are being treated in Damak-based AMDA Hospital.
12 exiled women from Bhutan, who have been deprived of refugee identity cards and other facilities from aid agencies, have already completed their 150 hours of fasting-to-death since last Tuesday.
The official of Nepal government will not address the issue immediately. Only when the incident takes place then only they will start the actions. This is the usual system in Nepal. If the govenrment could address the issue when application was filed, this could be the best strategy.
This could be the fruitful decission.Still there are political micreant to involve in the event. if there are really non BHutanese then tell them that you cannot be recognised as BHutanese. Take a rational decission before anything happen. This is the usual trend in the history of Nepal. Leader will start addressing the issue when it is fully destroy the property and human loss.
We dont have any hope so far they will rasing the issue on the behalf of Bhutanese. POlitical gambling of money are yet to take place.
We have not seen any dedicated parties who have rasie the voice of the issue in the past also. So i dont beleive they will address immediately
UNHCR and IMO should screening the people back in USA only as many nepalese are entered becoming BHUtanese. I can come with lots of proof

Well well Mr. Bishnu Parsai. It would have been nice if your comment would be on topic and directed at the situation of these women. But now it reads like you are trying to make a point based on bad information against these women.
Why not step outside your own mindset and try to look at the human side of things. To be quite honest, when looking at the data of these women they are all related with (as in married) to Bhutanese refugees or are genuine Bhutanese themselves but rejected for unclear reasons. The point of the hunger strike is that after all those years of unclarity and living in limbo they are setting an example by offering their own lives if needed to get this solved.
The only human reaction anyone could give is to back them up and support them and honor them with the greatest respect possible. One doesn’t do this with the risk of loosing ones life easily. I think people should bow their head to them deeply and raise awareness with government and the international community about this situation. We can not just let people die over this because how would it be if it was you yourself in such a situation?

I think it is very important for the government of Nepal and the UNHCR to resolve the long standing issue of registration at the earliest. I strongly support the genueine Bhutanese to be registered and given refugee status.There are thousands of innocent Bhutanese who are denied registration/refugee status. It is not at this point of time where resettlement of Bhutanese refugees is at its peak, but the question of registeration of unregistered refugees dates back to the closing of the screening post in Kakarvitta. Since its closure many Bhutanese failed to get the refugee status. It is almost 15 years now these innocent Bhutanese have been pleading for the refugee status.
Many applications were filed and and every time the list of unregistered refugees go long with the births from these unregistered Bhutanese.
Finally womens group have to start fast unto death and still the question remains unanswered. There were several instances where different protest programs were evaded by the authourities giving false assurances. Now it is the time where do or die situation comes. I salute the brave ladies to raise voice for the unorganized/innocent and ignorant lots and fighting for their Identity. May the authorities hear the voice and decide the issue within a certain time frame.
These people undergoing the strike are genuine Bhutanese or related(married) to theBhutanese.So the government,UNHCR and International Human Rights Agencies need to address the issue before it is too late.Salute to all the participants ready to sacrifice their lives for the Rights.”LONG LIVE”.
Absolutely not Mrs Alice, I am picturing the true scenario of Government Of Nepal. I am in support of this hunger strike for the common cause of deprived Bhutanese in the camp. If you look minutely regarding the issue, it can filter immediately to whom to designated Refugee Status.
A clear Screening is essential from Governament side and UNHCR.
